Views of the Forge
A few interesting views of the Japanese swordsmith forge taken by local Oceanside photographer Craig Thompson in the Fall of 2017. Over the winter of 2016 an area of the Blacksmith Shop was renovated to include a traditional Japanese style swordsmith forge. Built from natural materials and using historical techniques, this is the only forge of its kind in Western Canada. Traditional Crafter in Residence Davej from Crossed Heart Forge will demonstrate historical bladesmithing and knifemaking techniques with traditional tools.
See photos of constructing this forge, find out more about the process of making a traditional knife, or see the finished works here.
