Exhibition Overview
From Many, One: The Story of Repetition is an open call for artists whose work explores multiples, repetition, series, and accumulation. We are interested in how objects, images, and actions gain meaning through repetition—how similarity and variation reveal histories, relationships, survival, and the passage of time.

We invite artists to submit work that engages with themes such as:

  • Series, repetition, and variation, including the labor and care involved in producing, handling, or interacting with objects.
  • The interplay between the singular and the multiple, the individual and the collective, and how meaning grows over time.
  • The stories objects carry when grouped, arranged, or repeatedly presented, including the visible wear of well-used tools, furniture, clothing, paths, or surfaces.
  • Patterns in the natural world—migrations, pods, and seasonal cycles of West Coast flora and fauna—as expressions of repetition, adaptation, and life cycles.
  • Connections between human and natural systems, and the narratives that emerge from repeated actions, behaviors, or cycles.

All media are welcome, including visual art, installation, sculpture, photography, video, and interdisciplinary work. This exhibition is an opportunity to explore the quiet power of repetition, to notice subtle differences, and to share the stories that emerge when things are multiplied.

Eligibility and Fees
This exhibition is open to emerging, mid-career, and professional artists who live in British Columbia. Please note that the Parksville Museum is a nonprofit organization, and as this is our first year of presenting exhibitions, we are not able to provide artist fees or cover shipping costs. Please consider how this relates to your practice prior to applying.

Artists offering work for sale may choose their commission structure:

  • 60/40 for sales without volunteering
  • 75/25 for artists who volunteer a minimum of 3 hours at the Parksville Museum during the exhibition through events, workshops, demonstrations, or artist talks (or perhaps something unrelated to the exhibit, if that is of interest!)

Whether or not your work is for sale, we encourage you to consider this exhibition as an opportunity to connect with the local community. If you have an idea for a workshop, demonstration, or participatory activity, we would love to hear it!
